Alterations 101

Alterations 101

Jul 15, 2021

After you find your dream wedding dress, it arrives at the boutique, and you get to finally try it on for the first time, you’ll need alterations on the gown. While it will fit well, you want it to fit perfectly on your wedding day. Don’t worry—almost all brides need alterations, whether that be a simple hem change or they decide to customize their gown further (remove sleeves, change the neckline, etc).

At Grand Bridal, we offer an extremely well-done in-house alterations service. With over 25 years of bridal alterations experience, your wedding dress is in great hands. Once your gown arrives, you’ll come in for your first fitting. We strongly recommend you bring any undergarments or shapewear you plan to wear on your wedding day, along with the shoes you’ve chosen. This way, the dress can be altered to your exact day of look.

Typically, you can expect your dress to be hemmed to the height of your shoes, and you’ll likely need a strap tightened or the side seams taken in slightly. Your seamstress will also add a bustle, so that your train can be pinned up after the ceremony and you don’t have to worry about it being in your way or being stepped on while you mingle with guests at your reception. The expert seamstress you work with will recommend what she thinks is best with your dress, going over cost as well so that you can select what services you’d like.

Most brides tend to have 2-3 fittings in the final two months leading up to the wedding to ensure the dress is fitting perfectly. When you come to pick up your completely finished gown, we will have everything completely pressed and ready for your wedding day, so that your only concern is simply putting the dress on to walk down the aisle!
